It’s all about the experience, the memories, the dreams.

The Grapevine House and The Lemon House are located on the island of Aegina, 15 nautical miles from the port of Piraeus, between 40 mins to 1h15mins depending on the boat you take.

When the idea of sharing or short letting The Grapevine House emerged, we imagined offering you, our guests, a place that would make you feel at home. Through the Grapevine House has the simple comforts of a real home.

And then the idea of sharing our own home also came about, when we were faced with the reality that more of you wanted to stay on the property.

If you are looking for a place that is impeccably designed and includes a range of top-notch facilities, this is not the place for you.

If you are looking for a simple, 19th Century house, with all the beauty and imperfections that age bring, with character and the basic needs one can ask for a short stay, then this is the place for you. And you will probably find more.

The property has 2 houses: the main house and the guest house. It is situated on the periphery of the town of Aegina, in an old orchard with truly old vines, three lemon trees, four fig trees and two pomegranate trees as well as many plants and flowers, on a plot of land with about 50 pistachio trees and 12 olive trees.

It is a place to share, to inspire, to experience in many different ways, all year round. Spending time in the Grapevine House, you will discover the island of Aegina in a different light, meet some of its inhabitants, take part in many projects and activities relating to the art of crafts.

This is where we live, together with India, our dog, our three cats and the occasional visiting animals.

Both houses, that is yours and ours, share the Orchard: its many trees, its patios, its external oven. There is privacy, there is also sharing. Sharing of a meal, sharing of a workshop, for we love to cook and eat together, and we also love to share our experience through the workshops and seminars that we organise. You will be able to enjoy many different crafts and activities: from making clay pots to following the process of olive picking from beginning to end (if you here that time of year); letting go of the fear of the blank page by taking part in a creative writing workshop; planning which trails to embark on, enjoying an art show in the grounds and around town… The list of activities is as long as you want it to be.

We look forward to welcoming you,

marina & yanis

The simple comforts of The Grapevine House

Through the Grapevine House is our guest house. It is set up with all the basic amenities and conveniences needed in a home, taking into account that the house was built in the mid-late 1800's. It was renovated by us in early 2023, and decorated with carefully chosen objects of art & craft to make your stay that little bit more special.

We are always around and available, a door or two away, for anything you might need to make your stay as agreeable as possible. All you have to do is show up and enjoy yourself.

The house is about 1.5 km from the port and town of Aegina. You can easily walk to the centre, its shops, bars and restaurants. If you come with a car or decide to rent one, you can park it in the property.

The house features a double bedroom with a painted ceiling, a converted cellar that can sleep two additional guests, as long as they can duck to get in. The living area is spacious and bright, with a dining table, two comfortable wicker armchairs, and embedded in the wall is a wooden grape press that was once upon a time in use somewhere in the property. The kitchen is small but fully equipped with everything you need to make tea, coffee and prepare your meals. The bathroom, which is accessible through the kitchen, is also small but has all you need. The house has many of its original items of furniture and objects, that we cleaned and fixed up. To these we have added some of our books for you to browse through, a lot of paintings and objects accumulated from years of travels. So many cultures and different histories and memories together in one home, to which you will add some of your own. And It has its own washing machine, in an outdoor cupboard behind the bathroom. The house has its own wifi.

The Grapevine house is surrounded by a courtyard with a few tables and lounging chairs for you to choose from. The courtyard opens up to the garden and property as a whole, with flowers, herbs, plants and trees as well as more corners to choose from depending on the time of day, the shade, the sun, your mood.

It is an ideal place for couples with or without kids, for up to 4 friends travelling together, or a solo traveller looking for some peace and quiet or taking part in one of our workshops. So, whether you're looking for an artistic or any other kind of retreat, a place to gather your thoughts or a safe, relaxing vacation environment surrounded by nature, our guest house is the perfect fit.

If you are planning a winter visit, know that island life at this time of year is wonderfully quieter but also damp. Old houses do have their little issues and no double glazing (!), but there are electric heaters and electric underblankets to make sure your bed is warm when you get in. Having said that, one day might be cold or wet, and the next one you might be able to go for a swim.

PS - If you have a cat allergy, know that although they roam freely in the garden and they do occasionally walk into the Grapevine House, we make sure they do not stay there. However they do live in the Lemon House. Also bear in mind that the cats can be food thiefs, so do not leave food unattended! And being in Greece, there might be more cat visitors... although India does keep them away most of the time.

The Lemon House

If the Grapevine House is not available, ask us about the Lemon House. It is our own home, which we do occasionally rent to participants of our workshops, between April and October. We close access to our own bedroom and leave you with a studio-like home with a spacious living-dining room-bedroom, filled with books, paintings, objects and music, as well as Yanis's desk, which you are welcome to make good iuse of. The kitchen is bathed in beautiful light through two large windows, and filled with everything a real cook needs - yes, marina loves cooking and Yanis has become an expert in baking cakes! The bathroom is definitely larger than the guest house's, and has a beautiful, old sink found on the premises. There is an extra room with marina's desk, an old chest of drawers on which a beautiful Monstera sits, and large sofa that came all the way from Brazil. From there you can walk onto a semi-covered balcony - here you can enjoy your summer breakfasts in the shade, sunset time and quiet dinners. The garden is for you to enjoy, and who knows, you might meet your neighbours who are staying at The Grapevine House. The house has its own wifi.
